Tanalising

All of our timber buildings are tanalised. Tanalised timber is wood that has been impregnated with a wood preservative under controlled conditions in a vacuum pressure timber plant. The main active ingredient in the treatment process is called Tanalith E.

Tanalised timber is the most commonly used timber for all outside projects, there are several benefits to using tanalised timber. Tanalised timber will help the fight against bugs, rodents & water. Tanalised timber is not "waterproof", so we recommend the use of an oil based preservative(Sadolin Oil) to keep your garden building looking beautiful for years to come. We recommend giving the tanalised timber a minimum of 2 weeks to dry out to prevent moisture from escaping from the timbers.

Tanalised timber is safe to use for childrens playhouses & animal enclosure.

Understanding Timber

Due to the nature of timber, the appearance of wood grain and the number of knots can vary. Knots are a common feature of timber and are part of the materials rustic charm. Tanalised timber will help protect your garden building from the elements. Occasionally this treatment can lead to green or white spots on the timbers surface, however these can be brushed off easily due to timber expanding & retracting, as moisture reacts with its core, this can lead to wood movement or splits within the timber.

Warping occurs due to swelling & shrinking, as wood varies in density and texture, as it is exposed to moisture, this is not uniform and cannot be prevented against. Warping & cracks in timber are natural and they do not affect the structural characteristics or the strength of your timbers.

You can counteract warping by watering your timber product.
